In a dystopian world, after the demise of technology, Lore was brought up believing she was a boy, and an orphan. The only constant of her childhood was transience, as she was continuously fleeing, at the insistence of her guardians, and usually in the quiet of night, from one end of the Vilken realm to the other. As a child, Lore never understood the need for caution and secrecy, or the actual threat to her survival. In her adolescence she learns of the royal blood in her veins, and the horrific fate of her parents at the hand of her uncle, the false King. The Changeling is the tale of Lore's rise to power, and the journey she takes to find the love she needs to survive.
The Changeling Fortune Favor Book 1 eBook Jennifer Lyndon
I've been reading Gay Girls Books for a few months now and this is the first lesbian dystopian book I've read. Dystopian fiction is amongst my favorites. As avid fan on this genre and Jennifer being my favorite author because of her debut book Infatuation which I read multiple times. I was looking forward for this second book and when I read the synopsis I was dismayed. I was expecting a modern setting kind of book just like the first one. And was skeptical to read because honestly there are lots of good books available on this genre. I put it down immediately and told myself I'll wait another years again for the third release. But after one week or so I've give it a try.
For the second time, she captivated my interest. She entertain my mind which is not easily be entertained. Jennifer did it AGAIN! I won't dwell details on the story, you will get a clue on the genre itself. If you love Jennifer as much as I do you will surely love this book. She exceeded my expectations on this genre. I've got few questions but I think it will be answer on book #2 if she make this a series. Seems like it.

The Changeling Fortune Favor Book 1 eBook Jennifer Lyndon Reviews
I enjoyed this book I liked that it was constant and not contradicting itself with previous chapters. The story was interesting I mean weird but good at the same time. What I didn't like was the pace at the bigging it goes to fast into reclaiming Vilkerland and then it slows down a little to much and then things happen really fast and then super fast at the end everything seemed rushed I don't like how they ended it with Pet.
The Good
For lovers of regular romance Lyndon fair, the characters do not disappoint. The lead character is a blonde, attractive female who is learning the ropes of life and her career (*cough* seem familiar). The object of the lead character's obsession is an exotic, strong, intelligent female force that is self absorbed and brilliant (*cough* seem familiar). Basically, if you like both leads from Lyndon's first novel, then you'll like the main characters here as they are very similar.
If you like generic romance novels, then you'll like the main characters. Intense love that never moves beyond the infatuation stage combined with intense jealousy. To be fair, this is the general formula for heterosexual romance novels Thus, if you enjoy the regular romance formula, then you'll enjoy this book.
The pacing is well devloped until the last 3rd of the book, the pacing was excellent. There were times I desired to have more of the kingdom fleshed out (1/3 of the kingdom lacks development...if you really know what makes the Noge so special, then you've gotten a lot more out of the book then Lyndon provides). Still, I enjoyed most of the the book and its moderate to fast pacing. However, the last 3rd of the book is rather unnecessary and misplaced as the 3rd character involved should have been addressed with depth earlier in the novel or not at all. It felt like something that the author wanted to do earlier, but decided to ram in at the end. There were more important issues that were glossed over and it hurt the overall quality and lasting impression of the novel.
The Bad
Sci-Fi This book is NOT a dystopian novel. This is a fantasy novel for most of the entire entry. The dystopian elements are neither explained or well incorporated into the novel. Science is used as a "quick fix" explanation without the science being explained or making much sense. Why did was science abandoned in this universe? Why did one group of scientific robots still exist? These are a few, but very obvious questions that were left by the incorporation of sc-fi.
Inconsistent Fantasy This is a fantasy book. However, certain Fae powers as well as "spells" are applied without consistency. I feel this is to support the sci-fi side of the novel. However, the parts that are explained as sci-fi are given no depth beyond a write off. Therefore, it might have been better to use regular "magic" fantasy explanations in order to be less jarring and inconsistent.
Abusive and Self Absorbed Leads Spoiler Alert! How can M'Tek be asleep for 4 years and not give a darn about missing out on her children's growth or her lover's anguish while she was asleep? She's more obsessed with fidelity than she is with her family's well being after her 4 year absence. This is just the tip of the ice berg. M'Tek for someone who is over 200 years old seems to be concerned with her lover being with someone else (even when she's pushing for that outcome) than about her lover's happiness. The characters were written like insecure, emotionally abusive, teenagers.
Lyndon General Notes
If you like general romance fair, then this will appeal to you. Outside of setting, Lydon's stories are incredibly similar. Self absorbed leads, the main being a fair-headed, light eyed beauty, having a struggle of stubborn wills. The object of affection is an exotic, intelligent, jack of all trades beauty. The relationship never gets out of the obsession stage.
The sex scenes are plentiful. Strange descriptions and overly clinical descriptions are avoided during these scenes. However, the scenes become repetitive over time.
If you are looking for a fantasy novel, then ignore the ham-fisted sci-fi references. If you are looking for a sci-fi/dystopian novel, then don't read this book. Next time, Lydon would be better served by selecting a single genre.
Also, please get an editor. There were several glaring mistakes in the book that took me out of the novel. This could have been avoided with a better editor.
Worth $5? Yes. Treat it like a JCVD movie. Lots of fun, but nothing to take seriously.
I don't write many reviews, but this one got me going. I'm not fond of fantasy. I like Sci Fi, this one has got me baffled. When I started reading it seemed fantasy, but there are hints along the way ,that there is more to it than that, and it is more obvious later in the book. It flows beautifully. You can get an idea of the story from the other posts. I think this is a very clever device to create a dynasty, and I can't wait for the next book in this series (if there is one). I have a feeling the author will do what she wants, a sequel or something new, I can't wait. In some way I don't want a sequel, it's too predictable, give us an other surprise
I was really impressed with Lyndon's second book even though it's in many ways a total departure from her debut, An Infatuation. This book still has the very complex relationship between the two leads and an emphasis on the relationship, yet it is also a sprawling fantasy book instead of a modern setting. In fact it could have easily been two books as it's quite long with little filler. It's simply good writing, fleshed out world building, believable emotions and long enough to really tell a story that spans years but doesn't feel rushed.
It's not five stars for me because there is a bit of a sci-fi element thrown in 2/3 of the way through in what otherwise would have been a more straightforward fantasy story which I don't really think worked that well. It's a clunky plot device that bothered me and yet it doesn't detract from the overall story or the quality of writing. Just a choice that I don't think was right for the story. Still very enjoyable though.
I'll skip the synopsis and just explain why this is AMAZING
- Loveable cast! The main characters are relatable and their romance is something you crave and root for!
- Wildly unexpected plot twists. I really wasn't expecting where this book went. It shocked me in such a refreshing way. The twists are huge, but the author does a fantastic job blending everything together in a smooth and addicting manner.
Overall, this author has created an amazing world that left a long lasting impression. If you are interested in a lesbian romance with adventure and thrill then I highly recommend giving this a try!
